President Buhari In London Ahead Of Syria Conference (Photos)
President Buhari has departed France for London to attend the Syria Donor Conference to raise fund to cushion the humanitarian problems faced by over 12.2 million people in Syria.
Speaking to Channels Television on the President’s itinerary, the acting High Commissioner of Nigeria to the United Kingdom, Mr Adah Simon Ogah, said the President would also meet with Nigerian citizens living in the UK on developments at home.
Mr Ogah added that Nigeria had some lessons to learn from the Syria Donor Conference which would attract world leaders to London on Thursday.
Syria Donor Conference
The Syria Donor Conference is being co-hosted by UK, Germany, Kuwait, Norway and the United Nations.
Syria has the world’s biggest humanitarian crisis, having seen over five years of civil war.
Billions of dollars in international aid are needed to support people caught up in the conflict.
The Supporting Syria and the Region conference will bring together world leaders from around the globe to rise to the challenge of raising the money needed to help millions of people whose lives have been torn apart by the devastating civil war.
The funds are expected to meet the immediate and longer-term needs of those affected.
Earlier on Wednesday at a meeting in France, President Buhari told the European Union that his administration was doing its utmost best to protect the fundamental human rights of persons in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations against Boko Haram insurgents.
